Historic Preservation and Tax Credit Resources
Federal Historic Tax Credit Rules:
Here is information from the National Park Service on the Federal Tax Credit incentives.
"The Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives program encourages private sector investment in the rehabilitation and re-use of historic buildings. It creates jobs and is one of the nation's most successful and cost-effective community revitalization programs. It has leveraged over $62 billion in private investment to preserve 38,000 historic properties since 1976. The National Park Service and the Internal Revenue Service administer the program in partnership with State Historic Preservation Offices." Federal tax creits can range from 10% to 20% on income producing properties.
The Ohio State Historic Tax Credit Preservation offices are known as SHPO. SHPO administers the Federal Tax Credit program in Ohio, and also administers the Ohio Historic Tax Credit Program.
Ohio Historic Tax Credit Rules:
The Ohio Historic Tax Credit rules are similar to the Federal tax credit rules, and are administered in Ohio by SHPO also. The Ohio tax credits are 25% for qualified Restoration expenditures (QRE). Ohio credits are also available on owner occupied properties in addition to income producing properties.
